Source of Deliverance
Psalm 34:1-22
Psalm 34 recounts the power of the Lord in deliverance. It reveals His care and constant concern for His Children. It also indicates some of the steps an individual needs to take if he/she expects God to intervene in the time of distress.
The Psalmist David was confident that we serve a God who readily provides deliverance to those who are experiencing difficulties. Believers are encouraged to take practical steps in time of difficulty.
1. Practice True Worship (vs 1-5)
When should the believer worship the Lord through praise? David answered from a personal perspective by saying “at all times” Worship exceeds the boundaries of circumstances and time limitations. Praise in trying times is possible because of the nature and character of God, who is the stimulus as well as the recipient of our praise. Praise is possible when threatened by disease, the economy, war, and other results of sin, because we boast in God rather than ourselves. Praise flows when we dwell on who God is and what He has done for us through Jesus Christ.
2. Seek God’s Help (vs 6 -14)
God knows when we are in difficulty and need help. He also cares and desires to help. However, neither of these two facts relieve us from the obligation of crying to the Lord and asking for His divine intervention. David indicates how he called for help. God heard his plea and delivered him from his desperate circumstances.
3. Expect Divine Deliverance (vs 15-22)
Divine deliverance can be expected by the believer since the Lord remains near to His Children. He is the Good Shepherd, who stays close to the flock to protect them from harm and to care for their varied needs. Verse 15 and 18 emphasizes God’s constant protection; not only is He near but He actively watches and listens.
God is nearby, watching over us. We can, and will, experience his help when we find ourselves in a difficult situation.
