God’s Call to win Souls
Matthew 4:12-22; 9:35-38
In all Scripture there is only one area in which God is confronted with a shortage that cannot be filled by a creative act, and that is the lack of workers to “ make up the hedge, and stand in the gap” (Ezekiel 22:30) God’s basic problem in the world now is finding workers. Jesus Christ has provided our vicarious atonement. The plan of God is in effect but cannot be made effective because of lack appropriate human representatives. So He is Still calling.
Much has been said about God’s call for workers. It comes, in a variety of ways. God’s call is an inner constraint, a sense that this is destiny always compelling but usually growing stronger with years.
A few takeaways from our text;
1. The Example (vs 35)
Mathew states that Jesus went everywhere teaching, preaching, and healing the sick. His activity was unceasing. He visited every city and village in the thickly populated district of Galilee. People had never seen anything like this-someone spending His time in ceaseless journeys and in constant labor and not for personal gain or pleasure but for love. Christ is calling us to emulate Him. Let us walk diligently after Him as our example.
2. The Motivation(vs 36)
Jesus saw the multitudes as sheep that had strayed from the fold. They were sheep that had wandered from the shepherd. They were away from home and lost. They are only two classes of people, the saved and the lost.There is no middle ground, no halfway place.
We must be moved with compassion and touched not only because people are physically tired and exhausted because of pleasures of life but also because they are sin-sick and depraved.
3. The Command(vs 37,38)
Jesus commanded His disciples to pray for more workers to be sent into the harvest. Prayer is in direct relationship to the Christian’s success to harvest.
A supply of faithful Christian workers is of utmost importance for the well-being of the church. It is the strength of the prayers of Christians that enables the workers to be successful in reaching and winning the lost for Christ.
God is still calling men and women. Have you heard His call? Are you willing to forsake all and follow Him?
