His Steadfast Love
“Through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV
Our devotion today takes on a reflection of God’s Steadfast Love. By Steadfastness, we understand that essential quality that is steady, constant, and unwavering. Now, scripture teaches us that by nature, God is love. This love, which is Steadfast always! We draw great encouragement from our text today:
This is another great attribute of God revealed in his nature. The writer observes at a time of great affliction and God’s chastisement of his people because of sin, that they are still preserved and not consumed. God remembers mercy even after judgment. They could still experience God’s Mercies. We, too, can testify of God’s Mercies that have preserved us through different situations.
That Love is God’s nature. We can expect that his Love is Steadfast. It’s unchanging and unfading but the same yesterday, today, and forever just as his nature. If God’s love was changing, then that would mean his nature changes, too. No situation should make us re-define God’s love, whether positive or negative. God’s love stands prime in all situations. Sometimes, in our great afflictions, we have yet experienced his love even greater!
God abides ever faithful as he is merciful, and his love never fails. The writer indicates that his mercies are new every morning, and so is his love. This speaks of faithfulness. As sure as every new morning comes by the order of nature, we are assured of the steadfast love of the Lord and his mercies. He is ever faithful that no man can equal.
We need be thankful to God for his love and mercy each day and commit our lives and all endevours to his faithfulness, for it is great!
