Serving as Christ Served!
Philippians 2:1-13
Learning to serve God ,and others, as Christ served is an important subject we all should be concerned about.
Paul deals with that problem very specifically in today’s text. He says that we should serve as Christ served. How did He serve?
The main point Paul emphasizes here is humility. Christ is our example. Though He was “In very nature God”(Phil.2:6) He took “the very nature of a servant”(v.7)
The eternal Son of God became, in time, the Son of Man, so that He could die on the cross to save us from our sins. Certainly, then, we ought to be willing to take a humble servant’s place in serving others. We should look out not merely for our own interest, but also for the interest of others. (2:4).
The following could help us:
1. 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀: We are not to live to please and serve ourselves, but to please God and serve humanity.
2. 𝗜𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀: Christ wants to live out his life in us and through us. He became a “servant” to serve all people, and we must follow His example.
3. 𝗜𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀: It is not enough to confess our sins, repent, and ask God’s forgiveness. We must let Christ come into our hearts not only as savior from sin but also as Lord of our lives. This requires that we think as He thinks, in complete obedience to God’s will. For Jesus, obeying God’s will meant going to the cross.
4. 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲: Humility is one of the greatest of Christian virtues we are encouraged to have.
